just-do-it

Motivation can be one of those things that make or break your fitness regime and goals and even your eating habits. I can be terrible when it comes to just doing something or getting on with something!

But I have started a little trick to get me more motivated and it’s starting to become a habit after a few weeks!

Lets say, there’s washing up that needs doing and you really can’t be bothered. What normally goes through your head? “I’ll do it in a minute”, “I’ll do it after doing…” and “I can’t be bothered right now” Do these ring a bell? I say these things all the time, and it ended up with lots of things not being done.

So, you know what? As soon as I say to myself “I’ll do it in a minute”, I get up and just do it! That phrase now acts as a trigger to get my butt into the kitchen and do that washing up, but do other things as well like tidying the living room, or sorting out the washing etc.

But this doesn’t just work around the house! You can use it for your health and fitness too.

For example, you go to a store and see some chocolate and think about getting yourself a nice big bar even though you are trying to cut down sweets. You’ll no doubt say to yourself “Oh, I’ll work it off later” or “I’ll be going to the gym tonight so I can have this”….STOP! As soon as you’ve said those words, walk out the store, or move to the fruit section and get yourself something healthy. It’s amazinfg how you can train yourself to do the healthier thing with this little trick!

It works for fitness too! When it’s time to go the gym or go for a walk, or even just do some yoga at home or put on that fitness DVD. You might get that little voice in your head saying “I don’t feel like it today” or “I can’t be bothered right now” or “I’ll do it tomorrow”…NOW put your shoes on immediately and get out that door to the gym or walk, or get your yoga mat or put that DVD in.

Don’t give these thoughts a moment to rest in your mind, otherwise you’ll agree with them and take the “easy way out”.

If you act on that thought straight away and just do it, you’ll start getting up and doing things automatically and get more motivation to do things!
