Just do it!

just-do-it

Motivation can be one of those things that make or break your fitness regime and goals and even your eating habits. I can be terrible when it comes to just doing something or getting on with something!

But I have started a little trick to get me more motivated and it’s starting to become a habit after a few weeks!

Lets say, there’s washing up that needs doing and you really can’t be bothered. What normally goes through your head? “I’ll do it in a minute”, “I’ll do it after doing…” and “I can’t be bothered right now” Do these ring a bell? I say these things all the time, and it ended up with lots of things not being done.

So, you know what? As soon as I say to myself “I’ll do it in a minute”, I get up and just do it! That phrase now acts as a trigger to get my butt into the kitchen and do that washing up, but do other things as well like tidying the living room, or sorting out the washing etc.

But this doesn’t just work around the house! You can use it for your health and fitness too.

For example, you go to a store and see some chocolate and think about getting yourself a nice big bar even though you are trying to cut down sweets. You’ll no doubt say to yourself “Oh, I’ll work it off later” or “I’ll be going to the gym tonight so I can have this”….STOP! As soon as you’ve said those words, walk out the store, or move to the fruit section and get yourself something healthy. It’s amazinfg how you can train yourself to do the healthier thing with this little trick!

It works for fitness too! When it’s time to go the gym or go for a walk, or even just do some yoga at home or put on that fitness DVD. You might get that little voice in your head saying “I don’t feel like it today” or “I can’t be bothered right now” or “I’ll do it tomorrow”…NOW put your shoes on immediately and get out that door to the gym or walk, or get your yoga mat or put that DVD in.

Don’t give these thoughts a moment to rest in your mind, otherwise you’ll agree with them and take the “easy way out”.

If you act on that thought straight away and just do it, you’ll start getting up and doing things automatically and get more motivation to do things!

The Horror of Wearing Jeans!

the-horror-of-wearing-jeans

Recently, the company I work for decided to change the uniform rules. So instead of wearing a smart black skirt/trousers (I always wore a black skirt), we are now wearing…jeans!

Jeans?! Ok, I’m sure most people would think that’s pretty cool and loads of people in the company are very pleased with this decision. I on the other hand dreaded this news! They also had to be blue jeans…even worse (I live in black!).

The reason why I hated the thought? Because I have never been able to fit into a pair of jeans in my life. The last time I wore them was when I was about 10-11 years old and went horse riding! I was tubby then too, and I had to wear a huge size to fit my waist and even then, they were tight on my legs and I looked absolutely huge! With this in mind, I was so scared to go jean shopping. I’ve always said to myself that I’ll wear a pair of jeans when I’m the weight/size I’m meant to be, in other words, when not overweight or so body conscious.

But, I have to wear jeans for work. There’s no alternative. So this week, I went jeans shopping…

First up, I was so lost! I didn’t know what cut I was looking for, apart from knowing I definitely didn’t want skinny fit!!!

So, I looked around, and saw that bootcut was probably good for me with that little flare at the bottom and slightly loser fit compared to some others.

I got into the changing room, ready to know they wouldn’t fit. I took in a size 18 and 16 in to try. I put on the 18, and to my amazement, they were too big! Too big?! That’s a first in itself! So then I try the 16 on. Although a little snug, they didn’t cut off circulation or stop me breathing out, and they actually looked…alright! For me to be wearing jeans and saying to myself “they look alright” is a miracle! I’m not 100% comfortable in them…my butt still looks far too big and my thighs are rather round, but I can actually now fit into a pair of jeans! Wow!

At the moment, I only wear jeans for work. But I’m slowly warming to them. I have always wanted to wear jeans, but always found them to be too tight either on my stomach or thighs unless I went for a huge size, and then they’d just look stupid and also made me look twice as big!

It’s made me excited to know that one day, I’m going to fit comfortably into a pair of jeans when I choose to wear them, instead of this time round where I have to wear them. But if I didn’t have to wear them for work right now, then maybe I wouldn’t be thinking of getting a pair for everyday use soon…

This has shown me how much I have actually slimmed down, and that my hard work is really doing something. It’s definitely motivated me more to keep up the gym and do that little bit extra when I can.
